While wealth can enhance one’s freedom, The Great Gatsby shows how wealth can be abused, which in turn disrespects the freedom that money brings, as wells as that of the country. Throughout the novel, we see many characters views on wealth and living. The meaning of this is that Gatsby holds a great desire for wealth and his material items. Which is positive because Gatsby does gain that wealth and material but the bad part is that Gatsby believed that he could get Daisy with his wealth and power. But all that ended up being false.

Gatsby’s wealth in “The Great Gatsby” By F. Scott Fitzgerald does truly affect what he really wants and that is Daisy. When you have a lot of money like Gatsby it is hard to live your life in peace, everyone wants to know what you're doing, where you are, and they criticize people with money a lot more than people with none.

George becomes enraged and kills Gatsby and then kills himself. Unlike the rest of the characters in the story, George is not wealthy and corrupted by his money and greed. However, unfortunately, the wealth and greed of other people is his undoing. He dies because of other people’s need for money.

The role of money in The Great Gatsby relates to Gatsby most. The novel is a phenomenon in which money represented as a means to reach a particular goal or dream. The creation of Jay Gatsby’s money comes from bootlegging, and he attempts to cover it by saying that his wealth comes from a wealthy Midwestern family.

”So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end.” (Fitzgerald 104) After meeting multi-millionaire Dan Cody, Gatsby wanted to be just as rich. “Gatsby transforms to get to the top. James Gatz was never truly erased in the fabrication of Jay Gatsby. It is at that length, that we say Gatsby is devoid of social wealth. Even in his riches, he is still poor because he is devoid of that “old money” history. Therefore, his rampant materialism attempts to disguise his social poverty.

In Chapter 5, the dream Gatsby has been working towards for years—to meet and impress Daisy with his fabulous wealth—finally begins to come to fruition. And so, for the first time, we see Gatsby's genuine emotions, rather than his carefully-constructed persona.
