How is wealth distributed across India? In the year 2000 the division of wealth across these groups was like you see here ,Bottam 90% have 34.1% ,middle 9% have 29.1% ,and the top 1% have 36.8% . They all had roughly 1/3rd of India’s wealth.

So uneven distribution of wealth has its roots in the policies pursued by our governments in area of education, health and other social benefits, taxation, employment mix. Social sector spending : we spend close to 4% of our GDP on education and health which is abysmally low by any standard.
